Diamond Engagement Ring

A diamond engagement ring is most young girl’s fantasy. To grow up and someday have the man of their dreams, while on bended knee, ask her to marry him as he hands her to most beautiful diamond engagement ring she has ever seen. The only thing that could possibly make this moment even better is if the ring that he is holding were an antique diamond engagement ring that has been a family heirloom passed down through the generations.

Choosing the right diamond engagement ring is not an easy task. There are many things that need to be considered when choosing a ring, much less one of this importance. The first thing you need to do when choosing a diamond engagement ring is consider the shape of the diamond that you want. There are many shapes available including round, princess, oval, marquise, and pear cuts just to name a few.

After the shape has been decided you move on to step two of finding that perfect diamond. The cut of the diamond determine the brilliance of it. A diamond that is too shallow allows light to be lost out the bottom. A diamond that is too deep allows the light to escape out the sides. The perfect depth allows for the light to be reflected back out the top to show its radiant beauty. There are six levels of grading on the cuts of the diamond. From the top, they are excellent, ideal, very good, good, fair, and poor. The lower the grade the lower to brilliance of the diamond.

The color of a diamond is graded on an alphabetic scale from D to Z. A diamond graded a D in color is virtually colorless and is very rare and expensive. Everything between E and J has a graduated color. The diamonds graded K through Z has noticeable color and is on the cheapest end of the color scale. The clarity of a diamond runs from virtually flawless inside and out to flaws that are visible to the naked eye. The more flawless the diamond the more expensive it is. The carat weight is the last of the characteristic of the diamond you will be choosing. The size of the diamond that you choose for you diamond engagement ring should depends on your budget and the size of the finder that will be wearing it. A huge ring on a tiny finger looks absurd.
